The GOODS-Herschel Survey

The open time key programme GOODS-Herschel (P.I. D. Elbaz, described in Elbaz et al., 2011, A&A, 533, 119) is an international collaboration to study with the Herschel Space Laboratory the fields of the Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey (GOODS). It consists of a super deep survey in the Northern hemisphere (GOODS-North field) and an ultra deep survey in the Southern one (GOODS-South field) at 100 µm together with a shallower coverage at 160, 250, 350 and 500 µm.

The GOODS-North field

The GOODS-North field is centered on the position of the Hubble Deep Field North. It has been observed with both SPIRE and PACS instruments.

  • PACS observation (100 and 160 µm): 124 hours, 10'×16'.
  • SPIRE observation (250, 350 and 500 µm): 31 hours, 900 arcmin2.
  • 2,710 sources in the multi-λ catalogue.

Note that the SPIRE maps cover a larger area than the PACS ones (see figure 1) and that only the PACS region was used for source extraction.

The GOODS-South field

The GOODS-South field is a 10'×10' area centered on the position of the Chandra Deep Field South. It was observed for 206 hours with PACS to reach the confusion limit at 100 µm.

  • PACS observation (100 and 160 µm): 206 hours, 10'×10'.
  • 2,531 sources in the multi-λ catalogue.
